Joanne Kennedy-Dew BA, RMT
Justine Baskey BA, RMT
Joanne is a Registered Massage Therapist with over 17 years experience working in Mississauga, ON. Originally from St. John’s, NL, Joanne has recently moved to Barrie, ON, and is very excited to continue her journey of promoting health & wellness in her new community.
As a graduate of Sutherland-Chan in Toronto, ON in 2006, Joanne has continued to work in a variety of settings including multi-disciplinary clinics, treating primarily chronic pain issues and working with colleagues to offer the best outcomes for all, inclusively. She has also treated in off-site workplace environments for years in the west gta, and appreciates the major benefit she was able to provide to her clients that are suffering with Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI).
Along with the focused general Swedish Massage technique base of her education, she uses active release techniques appropriate for athletes, pressure point techniques and/or relaxing energy transferring techniques appropriate for specific neuropathic conditions. Joanne also offers other modalities including Foot Reflexology, Hot Stone massage, as well as Dry Cupping and Infrared therapies as add-ons.
Joanne is passionate about her work and quite humbled to be able to assist her clients to wellness through massage therapy. As part of her weekly regime to maintain a healthy balance, Joanne enjoys being outdoors, maintaining her property, as well as cross-training and most sports. She appreciates all art forms and has dabbled in musical theatre, the fine arts of sketching portraits, and recently, painting. A couple of Joanne’s fondest memories are being on safari in South Africa (1990) and trekking through the rainforests of Costa Rica (2009), swimming with the seals in New Zealand (2019)... and since 2017, is very fortunate to have set out on several expeditions as an RMT with Adventure Canada into the Arctic and North Atlantic. If she has a motto, it is to ‘Keep Moving’!!
Justine is a graduate of the massage therapy program At Georgian College here in Barrie. She began her career at Scandinavian spa but made her switch to multidisciplinary clinic work after having her son. She uses a combination of different modalities: Swedish massage technique, cupping massage, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, fascial stretch therapy, and remedial exercise. She tailors each treatment to the needs of her clients, basing pressure and focus on the clients specific needs.
Justine has worked with a variety of different clients of all ages (10 to 80 years old). She has worked with hockey players, powerlifters, bodybuilders, people stuck at computers for hours a day, and those who maintain highly active lifestyles. Clients who have had surgeries, concussions, minor strains or sprains, and a plethora of other ailments have entrusted her as one of their rehabilitation team.
As a life long learner, Justine is often taking new courses. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University, she is formerly a teacher and left teaching to pursue massage. She graduated with Honours from the massage therapy program at Georgian College and is extremely passionate about her career.
In 2015 Justine herniated a disc during an unfortunate weight lifting accident and used to experience chronic pain. Due in part to her own injuries, she also understands that appropriate care and consistency with remedial exercise is required to live a pain free and balanced life despite injury.
She herself is an active individual; playing fast-pitch softball for the past 26 years; weight lifting; taking yoga classes; and spending any time outside she can with her son and dog. She is committed to helping her clients live the best quality of life they can.
